KCAL 9 used to have ties with the Walt Disney company and RKO corp. when it was KHJ-TV in the 1970s, later Disney was increasingly in KABC's business and in 1996, Disney purchased ABC networks while they had to let go of KCAL. KHJ radio was part of CBS radio when it also had K-EARTH 101 (remember the jingle?) before 1990 when KHJ radio was sold to become a Mexican mariachi music station. +

KCBS received a ton of response from viewers on their pessimistic news style, they began to air more uplighting and non-dramatic news specials or segments like "What's right with Southern California" in the late 90s. KCAL 9 is a subsidary of KCBS today, but hasn't yet changed its' tune of how they report the news with less tabloid-style nature. +
