My car needed more work than it was worth, and it was worth more in parts than as a working car. So after copious use of ebay, it was time to say goodbye.

what a waste of BMW's best production car

@maloyas Best car, but not the best engine. It used 1 litre of oil every 500 miles, and I've heard others say the same about the 3.0 M54 engine too - it had done 170,000 miles, but I expected more.

Most of the car lives on keeping other E39's on the road - I drive a 525d touring now. Great car, stronger engine.

@bmwfan4lyfe I'm sure you do, but you're a trader with adverts, a huge stock and a limitless amount of time. I'm someone who needed their driveway back, but still broke the car for more than it cost me to buy a year previously. Stop being such an angry keyboard warrior, belittling anyone who isn't as good as you are in the one area you specialise in, and get back to work selling things that no-one else can, like manual E39 'boxes for £400.

@bmwfan4lyfe I'd sold £3,000 of parts from it by the time it got here, if you know a way to make another grand out of what was left, then please share your secrets. No-one wanted panels, glass or suspension, and the engine was dead.
