The Witch has the baby because everyone else was bickering and forgot about him; representing how personal problems and selfishness blinds one to the well being of the future generations. In the song she tells the Witch tells the baby how innocent it is, but realizes that the baby, like Rapunzel will grow up and succumb to human nature. So she chooses to become what she once was, thus having freewill over herself and living in a personal consequence free life.

I miss "I'm the witch, you're the world" Such an important line. Although the changed lyrics really add to the intentions of the character.

Vanessa is a truly amazing entertainer. She can do it all, Broadway, TV, film, record an album, an incredible talent. The judges at Miss America got it right that night way back in 1983. Too bad the pageant blew her resignation. Funny how some things work out. Now, she is the one person that can host Miss America and bring it back from the dead.

I love Vanessa's witch more then Bernadetta's, they are both great actresses but Vanessa's witch is more cold and inhuman, while Bernadett's witch was more caring and loving.

MaskedLion, regarding ur comment on trae being the original lyrics, not true. There actually was a completely different song called 'boom crunch' that was going to be where last midnight was, there's even a recording of bernadette singing it.

@HiddenxxMickey It's Maureen Moore actually. Not Bernadette, also. I said, it was originally meant to be that theme of lyrics, and those WERE the original versions of Last Midnight, but then Sondheim changed them for the ones we are used to. I attended a seminar that he was teaching in 03 and I asked him personally
