"Body of War: New Doc Tells the Story of a Paralyzed Iraq War Veteran Coming to Terms with Disability and Speaking Out Against War."

"As the US occupation of Iraq enters its sixth year, we take a look at a new documentary that captures the struggles of one of the tens of thousands of US troops injured in the war. Body of War is directed by filmmaker Ellen Spiro and veteran broadcaster Phil Donahue. The film tells the story of Iraq war veteran Tomas Young. On April 4, 2004, his fifth day in Iraq, Young's unit came under fire in Baghdad. He was left paralyzed, never to walk again. Released from medical care three months later, Young returned home to become an active member in Iraq Veterans Against the War. We play excerpts of Body of War and speak with Tomas Young and with filmmakers Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro."

  • Brave soul! God bless you Tom. And what a loving mother. God bless you too Kathy. You're right Tom, DON'T BE IMPETUOUS! DON'T BE DECEIVED! These world leaders are tapping in to our patriotism & using us to fulfill their evil, selfish agenda. Keep flying the flag of truth Tom, you are fulfilling God' purpose for your life & you shall be rewarded!

  • Strong in many ways !

  • Why in God did I vote for Bush? Bush is a fucking idiot. I feel for the families for my idiot mistake.

  • Theres something that has been bothering me lately.. which is the use of the word "hero" and "sacrifice". These words are thrown around too much and used in the wrong places. The only real heroes in life are dead. In relation to war, the only qualification for being a hero or making a sacrifice is death.

Don't tell me someone is a hero for coming home after getting shot, when the real hero jumped on a grenade. You can call yourself a hero if you like, just know that the real ones are dead.

  • Thanks to Democracy Now, Phil Donahue, and Thomas....your work is great!

    Fatma from Egypt

  • He is lucky in many ways. He still has a penis unlike some other men. He didn't suffer from PTSD which is far worse than his illness because it rips you apart from the inside out and turns your own mind and spirit into a dark miserable dungeon where no family member can even reach. A stranger to self and family. Often the end is suicide.

  • WAR KICKS ASS!

  • Probably around the notion of "Those who live by the sword die by the sword." Killing people is killing people no matter if our government says its ok. He didn't go to Iraq to enjoy the scenery. A couple of hundred soldiers that came back from Iraq committed suicide. Hundreds of soldiers testified weeks ago about all the random killing of innocent people they saw and did including women and children.

Maybe from that context it could be understood why he probably said that, but what do I know..

  • richardman102 what exactly do you mean

  • Wow, to see the candid attitudes between the two of them. It's amazing.

    AMAZING.

    Thank you so much.
