Flying in midwinter at Mt Bakewell, York, Western Australia. The air is cold but there is still enough warmth in the winter sun to generate good thermals. With a powered hangglider you can cruise low over the Avon River and then fly up to the main launch to join the free flyers and watch them soar.

A few times I have shut down and caught thermals at this site. It's a great place for thermalling all year round, but I'd rather cruise along at 300' above the river where the view is better. My landings are gradually getting better, I've almost got the hang of it now. This video was assembled from from 3 flights: 2 landings were good and 1 was a mediocre and muddy belly landing crosswind.
