RV-12 Take-Off and Landing at Barton 15 Jan 2012.
I'm using a headcam, a muvi mini camera. This is because I'm getting too much vibration when I fix the camera to the airframe. Hope it doesn't make you too dizzy!!
Barton is a grass airfield, runway 09R is 621metres, ample length for an RV-12. But it is quite bumpy and in the winter can get very wet and muddy!!
The RV-12 takes off without fuss. The powerful elevator keeps the weight of the nose wheel and the take-off distance is quite short.
Landing is a different matter. Smooth touchdowns can be made on the main gear but when the nose touches it gets bumped around from the bumpy runway. Still, with the stick held back the bumping doesn't seem to do any harm.
I sometimes wonder if I should brake after landing to slow the aircraft and reduce the time the aircraft is bouncing during the landing roll. But with a wet airfield it would rip up the grass, which is the runway.
