Mixing up and testing oxalic acid to clean the bottom of a fiberglass boat's hull. Here's the formula. I also show trying bleach and other stuff to get the algae and other plants off. It's amazing what will adhere to the gelcoat.
Please watch for the warnings at the end because oxalic acid is potent stuff.
I bought some oxalic acid on-line at

More wunnerful songs at http://www.MaximPulse.com
I have no connection with soapgoods.com except that I made them a little richer buying their stuff.

  • The boat we are cleaning IS fiberglass! No harm at all.

We did find it helped to wet it down with water and scrap off the really thick stuff first with a plastic putty knife or ruler, then use the oxalic acid.

Boring disclaimer: of course try it in an inconspicuous spot first. I'm not a chemist.

  • Impressive that oxalic cleans so well, but is it safe for the fiberglass? Won't it damage it?

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing!
