Penny, who was put to sleep in October 2010 was my beautiful and naughty terrier with extremely bad language. This is her tribute.Penny was diagnosed with kidney failure about a year ago and was only given a few weeks to live. I took her to a wonderful homeopathic vet, Richard Bleckman, who gave us an extra year with Penny. Penny was therefore able to get to know her new family, Lambchop, Scampi and Nora, who gave her new inspiration. She loved Lambchop and would chase her round the garden. I bought a doggie buggie for Penny so that she could still enjoy her forest walks and get in and out when she wanted. She had lots of outings in that extra year, including walks in Windsor Great Park, Virginia Water and the forest etc. Also a trip to Richard Bleckman every month for her vitimin B injection. In the last few weeks it became clear that life was becoming too much of a struggle for Penny and on Tuesday 26th October I arranged for the vets to come to the house to put Penny to sleep. I gave her a lovely day. I took her to her forest and gave her a big plate of sausages, which she loved. I lit candles and put on some beautiful music. About half an hour before the vets arrived I gave her a sedative. She became wonderfully sleepy, climbed into her bed and settled for her afternoon nap. When the vets arrived she was asleep and didn't even feel the injection. I kissed her and wrapped her in a white fleece and tied a pink ribbon round her neck. Penny was cremated at 'Dignity'. They were lovely. For anyone who loves animals I can't stress enough what a difference it makes to arrange for the vets to come to your house to put your animal to sleep and also how important it is to give them a sedative so that they don't feel any pain. They just go to sleep. It doesn't lessen the pain you feel but at least you know you did your best for them.
