Saint Sword is an obscure action game for the Genesis/MD by Taito. I bought this game a long time ago complete in the box and I remember reading somewhere that it was related to the Saint Seiya franchise, but I don't think it really is as I haven't found anything pointing to such a conclusion. That was the main reason that I bought the game, so when I got something very different, I was kinda like "Ummm..."
In Saint Sword, you play as one of the last worthy Titans in existence, Macress, who has the ability to morph into half man, half beast forms. In addition to his powers of transformation, he can power-up by defeating enough enemies, shoot fireballs from his sword, and gain special items to further help him as you go through the game. You honestly don't need most of the items as you can handle enemies with just your sword. Macress' transformations consist of a Centaur (high mobility, vulnerable due to size), a Birdman (average mobility, ability to fly) and Fishman (only useful in water). Each form has their uses.
Each level usually consists of finding an enemy with a key to the exit and then fighting a boss. Most levels are fairly reminiscent in design to each other (rocky terrain) and are designed to be like mazes, though they aren't overly complex. It's a decent game.
Awesome game I must have beaten it 50 times. I know the music for this game is 8 bit and all but personally I think even the music made for this game was made pretty well, espcially for the time it was made in.
