This is the Overture to the Opera "Los Esclavos Felices" (The happy slaves); composed by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga also known as the "Spanish Mozart". It was composed when Arriaga was 13 years old; you can listen his deep dominium of the art of composition.

He was born the same day of Mozart's birth day but 50 years later. (Even both have the same names: "Juan Crisostomo de Arriaga" and Johann Chrysostomus Theophilus Wolfgang Mozart"

At the age of 3 he played violin, and years later he studied with Luigi Cherubini.

He died in 1826, 10 days before his birthday number 20.

  • Melyik zenekar játsza? Ki tudja?

  • @Szixy100 "Le concert des nations" Karmester: Jordi Savall ;)

  • Earlier today, just before 3pm, I heard my first piece by Arriago. WSHU-FM, 91.1 out Fairfield, CT broadcast: Juan Crisostomo de Arriaga: Nonetto Overture Op 1 Le Concert des Nations /Jordi Savall Astree 8532 CD. Not only was I captivated, but I'm certain I heard, in that piece, an almost exact quote of the opening bars of the 4th MVT of Beethoven's Symphony #1. Any Arriago lover out there (or Beethoven lover, for that matter) know what I"m referring to?

  • First: it's ArriagA! not ArriagO... second: it's the style, but not "the exact opening bars"... coincidental only.

  • Es realmente una desgracia la muerte prematura de tan grande mente musical y que se hayan extraviado muchas de sus obras
