You aren't reaching the right question... Tarja is a soprano, and the many years she had with nightwish she sang mainly mezzo-soprano songs... The fact that in CC and mainly in Once her voice sounded less heavy I think it was more a question of the production the albuns because live she sounds more opera again.

Plus, a less heavy voice doesn't mean a less operatic voice, in fact she now sings higher notes in some songs more suited for a soprano... so I think she still have her skills...

@larosade I agree. Her voice is too dark to be considered soprano. It really confused me when I didn't know too much about vocal ranges. I guess classical singers just feel some kind of need to be a soprano.

no, Tarja is a full mezzo. She may try to sound like a soprano, but you can clearly hear her distinctive mezzo timbre.

you`re right.i Once I didnt notice anopera or a zoprano voice in Tarja. maybe on their other albums, but not in Once. I think she stopped being opera in century child, but this year singing the reign on the concert she sounded so opera.

I also listened to her singing in some Church last year (I think It was in Finland) and she used vocals exactly like in the Oceanborn era. If I find those videos I'll give you the link to watch them...

So I think I can't agree with you... She is Still Tarja... but I respect your opinion of course.
