Darcus Howe - Black Foot on the Backfoot (Part One of 4)

Part of Liverpool's Writing on the Wall Rebel Rants series of events which featured high profile speakers ranting on issues of truth, liberty, democracy and justice.

Here Darcus discusses the idea that despite gains made following the inner city uprisings of the 1980's and the publication of the Macpherson Report, in many ways Britain has changed for the worse for black communities. To support his position Darcus charts the return of police stop and search tactics, the drift of young black men into violence, increasing hostility towards immigrants and Muslims, and the establishment's accommodation of the fascist BNP party.

@agf1pot I think I saw more than just black kids rioting. Just thought I would throw in that piece of fact. Whether the riots were caused by wanton criminals or whatever, actually there is such a thing as disenfranchised youth - I rather think that what we have seen is the ugly face of the most hardened youth who have lost respect for themselves and society and are beyond caring.

It's funny how people love to watch the news especially when it contains eye witnesses. But when the eye witness has a political witness to share, undoubtedly the cultural bias of the media instantly shuts it down as garbage.

Your undiscerning allegiance to authority figures like the army, government, police is quite misguided. You must always critique such institutions to really discern if they are serving us the people.

Darcus Howe, just saw you on news 24 regarding the London Riots. You are one thick ignorant racist black, These riots are nothing to do with disenfranchised youth, there is no such thing. These riots are to do with lazy, ignorant black youth who do not want to fit into society, who follow the negative messages put out by racist black ganster rappers. You have no respect for the law, or British mainstream society. If your grandson was stopped and searched by the police, it was for good reason.
