I review the Colt Sheriff's Model and compare it to the modern Bulldog .44 revolver from Charter Arms.
The Colt Sheriff's Model is a single action revolver, it loads and unloads from the loading gate, and it does not have an ejector rod. So that really slows things down. One thing in its favor is that it is chambered in .44-40, which is a heavy, hard hitting caliber for a handgun.
The Charter Arms Bulldog revolver is double action. It has a hand-ejector action for much faster loading and ejecting empty cases. It is chambered in .44 Special which is also a very heavy, hard hitting caliber.
BTW, I said "between 1873, when it was introduced, and world war one". It does not come out well, I will have to be more clear on my diction.
