(Special Release: To be Shipped Separately) - Pittsburgh PA: Rapidly-rising water covers fifty blocks in the heart of the city, causing damages mounting to $10,000,000 as the menace of inundation hits a wide area. Communication lines broken, isolating Lewiston and Johnstown where a repetition of the horrible disaster of 1889 becomes a terrifying possibility to 66,000 residents. Scenes of horror multiply as swirling water crushes all barriers, leaving untold thousands homeless or unable to resume their jobs."

  • Coming to a 'Burgh near you this March as well. Get ready, 'cuz it's gonna be a doozy!

  • Although I have always lived in central Pennsylvania, alas, I have no relatives here that would remember the flood, they all live in Iowa, my parents moved here from Iowa in 1992, three years before I was born. I knew about the floods (1888, 1936, 1977) through history lessons. Before now, I hadn't seen actual footage of the great flood of 1936. This newsreel is one of the saddest things I have seen. I found myself crying nonstop whilst I was watching and still am crying a little as I write this

  • From :36-:38,did you see where it was at in the Armstrong tunnels!!!This meant that Carson street was completely under water.I couldnt believe when I seen this.My grandmother has the original copy of the Pittsburgh Press that has these photos.I always look at this when I go to see her.

  • My Dad was 11 at this time, my Mom was 7, they talked about this flood all my life.

    I've never seen this one

    Thankyou for posting it

  • I'm gonna make this video one of the most popular of all time to get the word out about the disaster that hit Pennsylvania.

  • Wow, the full version. I'm going to put this in my favorite places.

  • Amazing. I live near that area. I know Altoona got flooded bad too, but Johnstown and Pittsburgh got it way worse.

  • Another future CNN announcer.
