Volunteers with Galveston's East End Historical District, with help from the Texas Forest Service, Galveston Island Tree Conservancy and a grant from The Home Depot Foundation, plant 170 street trees Sat. April 17, 2010. Hurricane Ike made landfall Sept. 13, 2008, and caused widespread flooding and damaged much of the upper Texas coast. The East End lost about 90 percent of its tree canopy to the saltwater flood. See galvnews.com.
