Ephesians 5:17-18 says, "Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit." It is wrong to get drunk. However, 1 Timothy 5:23 says, "(No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.)" Yes they drank wine in the New Testament. This was because the water was so polluted they needed the fermentation of wine as a disinfectant.
