Norwegian Crown Aground

The cruise ship Norwegian Crown ran aground this morning while negotiating the shipping channel into Hamilton Harbour. Reportedly none of the passengers or crew were injured. Passengers were transported to the city by tenders and life boats. She remained aground untill around 6:00 pm when she was pulled off during high tide. No damage reports as of yet, she will be inspected by divers.

That was my first week on the crown, I was a crew member. Very odd thing to happen.... won't forget it!

Wow. I worked on the crown in 1997 as a musician. Went to Bermuda, but we did not run aground. I lived on that ship for 6 mos. and did the scandinavian tour.  good times!

She was only aground on a sandbar for a few hours, the drinks flowed freely, and I always wondered if the band played?

the band was probably in the crew bar getting drunk too! They only worked us in the evenings until the 6 day reposition to europe, that's when they made us slaves.

I love Bermy. Did this happen in the narrow stretch between Spaish Point and the Dockyard if she was on her way to town?

yeah, it was too funny! My cabin is deck 3 fwd and my bathroom flooded when I showered. Gross! Seems like most of the people I talked to were way to dramatic over the situation. Their vacations weren't totally ruined, it rained most of the day and alot of tours were canceled. I think the officials handled it nicely. Us crew couldn't get off and it was a very difficult day. I guess the management feels that all disasters are handled better with free alcohol....
