Playing Bach on a water fountain (Hydraulophone is a pipe organ that runs on water instead of air). This is a low resolution, earlier version of the video. High resolution and more nicely edited version seems to take a long time to play on YouTube. It can be downloaded from http://wearcam.org or seen on Google Videos (seems that Google Videos automatically converts incoming video to format that can play quickly on all browsers).

  • saw this on ytv crunch one morning

  • Can you remember the date? It would be fun to watch it...

  • Where is this?

  • 770 Don Mills Road, Toronto:

Take Yonge Street subway north to Eglinton, transfer to #34 bus (Eglinton East). Get off at Don Mills Road.

Or take Bloor subway east to Pape, transfer to #25 (Don Mills) bus. Get off at St. Dennis Drive right in front of the pipe organ. As you step off the bus, the North division (12-jet hydraulophone) will be to your right, and the South division (45-jet hydraulophone) will be to your left.

  • That's quite impressive. How long would he have exercised on this?

  • He just walked over and played it with zero practice (first time in his life he encountered the instrument). If you want to learn hydraulophone, it's easy to play a recognizable song. However, with many years of practice you can get better and better at affecting the subtle changes in tone, dynamics, timbre, and expression and make each note into a time-varying sculpture. Because the water is "soft and squishy", years of practice can give you an ability to do intricate expression.
