In part it was spending the time reviewing the beliefs of Scientology that killed the last shreds of belief which I'd once held. When looking through the lens of time, with an understanding of how religion poisons and perverts history, the cultural recollection of supposedly holy characters turns to dust.

  • I'm a Republican and I approve this message.

  • @agamimnon423 all the Reagan 'hero worship' really confuses me. I've been waiting for a good reason to poke a hole or two in it, but I tend to avoid topics of politics.

  • "And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan"

    -- Gil Scott-Heron - B Movie

  • @13Heathens But then the same could be said for almost all are presidents. Look at the story of Gorge Washington and the cherry tree. This has been thought (At least for me) as fact when its quite possibly just a tall tail. I don't know why the republicans hold up Reagan as this bigger then life figuer. He did good as well as bad And in the end he was just a man.

  • "Like that of Jesus or Mohommad" - Or Kim Il Jong, Stalin and a host of others.

  • Third !!!!! Sorry, childish, I know. I never get to be first. RIP 13Heathens. The wife did it with the cyanide in the apple juice...

    Great points, by the way.

  • @13Heathens

Scientology actually did the same thing for me accept it was more that the atrociousness of the organization brought to the foreground how much people will do when they think they are justified.

I was always an atheist, but it let me realize that apathetic agnostics need to get with reality and what religion does to people and society.

  • Don't I vaguely remember that LRH was never in actual combat to begin with?

And that one of the reasons for his discharge (not Dianetics and Scientology, I mean his discharge from the military) was because during drills he "killed" his own side?

Or am I thinking of someone else?
