Gardaí joking about raping protesters (with subtitles)

This is an extract of a video recording, which was captured by accident, of members of the Gardaí joking about raping protesters from 'Shell to Sea'. The audio was recorded on a video camera belonging to one of the protesters.

The Gardaí involved failed to turn the camera off when they illegally took it from the protesters. They had arrested and were transporting to a Garda Station the two protesters when the conversation took place.

The two protesters were later released without charge and when the camera was returned to them, they discovered the conversation that had taken place between the Gardaí involved joking about raping the women.

Rape is underreported because of the shame, humiliation and trauma felt by the victim. Can you imagine the vulnerability felt in detailing such an attack to a stranger? What if they think rape is a joke? It's not offence, but distrust and shame.

I have first hand knowledge of circumstances surrounding the authentication and release to the media, of the tape the gardai inadvertently made on the women's camcorder.
