@Engineer245 Don't forget, Earthships are built partially underground, which also helps with temperature control.

@cvcazale3 - Structurally, the tires serve the same purpose as straw does in mud brick or a wall,,, or the wire fabric used in concrete. However the fact that there are millions of old tires out there it is also a great item to recycle. Rubber itself is not much of an insulator though. The insulating factor in these designs is the overall thickness of the walls.

I think Earthships use passive solar design (tilt the windows/overhang to let light in during the winter and shadow in the summer)
The tires are a good insulator, which probably keeps a lot of the humidity out.
I don't know details, however, so don't take my word for it.

yup,. thats the future of home building. I am a fan of straw-bail for construction,. however many of the design ideas,. can be used from these amazing earthships.
