You might think so, but they can be real handy in making a long distance shot with slugs. I believe there was a LEO that made an 80+ yard head shot with an Aimpoint T-1 equipped Remington 870 with a 14" barrel. I bet he was glad to have one.

is it me or is the optics, i think they look like a aim point and a maginfier, a little over the top for a shotgun ?
