In weeks preceding his removal-by-force, Zelaya tried to provide opportunity for the public to vote on whether they approved a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution. This is what led to the coup. It appears the coup leaders are more worried about an assembly in which the people could re-write their own constitution, than in Zelaya himself. Clearly it's the Honduran oligarchs rather than Zelaya who are more interested in concentrating and conserving their own power, where 1% own 90%.
