They built a museum at the site, which the spirits from the sands hotel came and haunted the museum. See the ghost adventure's las vegas museum episode.

I can't understand why are they demolishing historical and legendary buildings. Destroying their own heritage. Or like they sold the WW2 USS Enterprise to scrap. You don't do that, no matter how much money you can earn. In the end, the profit will be the death of them all.

I feel like they blew up history, emotion, and memories.

I stayed at the Sands about a year before they demolished it, it was pretty run down. I figure the owners knew it couldn't compete with the new mega resorts springing up in the neighborhood.

@dingdongditch1000 No it was 45 years old.

I have to agree. I played Drums/Percussion at these imploded Hotels back in 74-81 and I liked their intimacy and charm. But what does charm have to do with Vegas anyway? :-)

They call this progress?! Whats the criteria for historical buildings? I'm not saying the Sand's, Dunes etc were historical, but they weren't even given a chance to get to that point!!! Even tho the Venetian, Bellagio etc are beautiful in their own majestic ways, the smaller more intimate casinos are whats Vegas is all about. I miss those casinos

I was there when the Sands was imploded. It was sad to see the historic building come down. I never got to see the inside when it was open but I always thought it was a cool looking building from the outside.
I have to admit though that I love the Venetian that took it's place is my favorite hotel ever but it's still a shame the Sands had to come down.
i live in las vegas! xD

I used to work at the Sands here in Vegas.. I've never even seen the one in AC. I guess I need to hurry up huh?

In 1980 when the top Casino hosts moved their people to the Desert Inn.. that is when the magic left the Sands. Frank would not have had a problem with the old girl imploding.
