nope, the cross MUST be signalled by the lead, otherwise the follower MUST NOT take initiative to cross by herself
if not signalled, she must NOT cross, regardless the side the lead walks

Sorry but this is really disappointing teaching. You can obviously dance reasonably well, but nothing here inspires me. It's not about the steps and where your feet are - its about connection. Check out oscar if you really want to learn something..

The walking on the woman's right is the natural progression to the woman's crossing because the trajectory veers left.
That is what you ballroom dancers call a lead and we in the Argentine tango call a mark or the indication of where the sequence resolves.
