Action / reaction is a basic Newton principle. When orthodontists needs to move teeth, they usually take their "anchorage" on other teeth in the mouth. Sometimes, extra-oral forces are required in order to prevent unwanted tooth displacement.
Contemporary orthodontics can use "true anchorage" by the use of mini-screws that are inserted directly in the bone. These screws are integrated in the bone and cannot move. Mini-screws have many advantages and can be very useful to avoid extra-oral forces devices for example.

  • did u get them removed yet b/c im gettin mine taken out in about a week n a half?did it hurt or was there any discomfort?

  • I remove screws after ortho treatement regularly.

I do not even make any anesthesia.

    Any discomfort.

  • I had this done! It hurt so bad. I'm happy to say I finally have them out, but now I have these nasty springs :(

  • Curious .... I have never removed any mini-screw because of pain, I swear !

I removed all but one of them at the end of the treatment, even if some of them were slightly mobile, but still "in fonction". The one that failed was mobile several months after insertion. I had to replace a new one 2 month after removal. But at any time the situation was painfull

  • Hello where in Montreal can I find that system?

  • No idea, I have my practice in Paris ...

  • this dude just got screwed in the mouth

  • I had one of these done this morning :|

It didn't hurt when he screwed it in or did the injection or anything, but its a bit sore now.

The worst part is that it sticks out and is stabbing my cheek and gums above it, and my tooth keeps biting on it which is really annoying and feels horrible. aarrrh can't wait to get it out already.

  • OH MY FUCKING GOD ADFKJAS;LDFAJSDLFAJDFSL;FAJ;LSDFVANWELV

  • i got those screws todaii!! fuck it hurtsssss......

  • omg...

  • @PerioArts i never knew this existed

  • @PerioArts So how long do they stay in, or what is average and what is longest time to sport the little jewels.

  • i had this procedure done on my upper and lower, but i was asleep when they inserted it. When i woke up i was in pain but after 3 weeks it was alright. I had one removed and it was very discomforting but only because it was already so irritated.
