Madeline Island Property - Whittet

Lake Superior lakefront property on Madeline Island, Wisconsin offered by Island Shores Realty. This video is a summer walking tour from the current owner. Two sets of steps get you down to the 200ft(?) of sandy beach. One is wood with a birch tree shaded landing half way down for some Adirondack chairs and a killer shoreline view, one rustic stone cut into the hillside. Had submitted plans and been approved for a crib dock a few years back, just never carried through with construction, so resubmitting a dock application would be in order if you were to want one. Land is a typical northern Wisconsin mix of pine and birch trees and a riot of purple lupines on the lakes edge.
Because of setbacks, building of any sort of cabin or house would have to be on the inland side of the road (unless you're REALLY small in stature and could learn to love a 2 foot wide house !) But the good news is the whole property is gorgeous, a building site is already cleared and the lake is calling whether you're a kayaker, beachcomber, novel reader or anything in between.
Driveway spit with culvert is in and leads to the building site. Currently on the inland side of the road there sits a charmingly converted 10x40' office trailer that's been made into a lakeside "Kayak Shack" of sorts. (BTW kayaking around the Apostle Islands is arguably some of the best kayaking in the US of A !) No electricity or plumbing in "the shack" - just a cozy place to crash after a day on the water. Light has always been from lanterns and heat from a wood stove. Still on wheels it could be pulled off the property in an instant. There is also a 5x5' storage shed on the property that was built to match the cabin designs we had specifically designed and plotted for this property. We never carried all the way through with building the cabin so we never finished putting siding on the shed (which was to match whatever was on the cabin) so she looks a little sad in her tattered tar paper coat - but a few shingles or siding would finish her off elegantly.
All in all an idyllic island setting situated on the shores of the largest and most majestic body of fresh water on planet earth. You can think of it as base camp as you strike out into the great northwoods, Lake Superior and the jewel that is the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Or just your own sanctuary of quiet wooded seclusion, hypnotic crashing waves, and a healthy dose of sand between your toes.
