@petermaquire :) Oh dear, I must stop wearing that shirt. I suspect I may have started getting them to fulfil a vision but ended up loving myself more rather than the desired aim. lol

@Loreleila @Loreleila Well you do own a red lumberjack shirt...
I was just thinking about ways for you to be more self sufficient with regards to your firewood. I'm sending you a link to something that could be useful.

@petermaquire I used an axe when I was at uni and was a bit lethal. I'd end up catching the log with whatever I was cutting it with and hurling it like a caber. There are just some things best left to others. Anyway, what makes you think I have any desires to be macho? :S

Cathy, why don't you like using an axe? Sometimes people are afraid to swing an axe because the think they will chop their toes off. What about a splitting wedge and a sledge hammer? I have seen what looks like a good wedge on ebay. It splits the log into four instead of just into two. It's well macho.

@lapisredux Every year. But it's a fire designed for such things anyway.

crikey...you got a lot loaded on there gal....hope that chimney is well swept
Have you ever noticed that after a fire has gone down very low and only red hot coals covered with whitish ash are left, they make a sound that is identical to the sound made by footsteps into a deep layer of freshly fallen snow?

@palcsi I have. I love the sound of fire in all it's forms (well, other than a raging out of control one). I nearly made a video yesterday talking about the wonderful metaphor the differing states of a fire offers. It's strange how something so dangerous can be so comforting.
