@Addicted2Music and the rest that are related to this man.i think he is a great civil war hero.He displayed such common sence and he seemed to be a great thinker and problem solver.lol let's just admit there's not too many people with all 3 of these good qualities.I hope that he passed some of these good qualities on to each of you.he also displayed such a kindness not just for his own men but men that were fighting for the south.each of you should be very proud of him

@MJ0428 Lawrence didn't live to his 90s. He lived until 85 when he passed away in 1914. An he was wounded six times. A would 2 rounds he recieved during the battle of Petersburg. Where he was shot threw his right hip and groin and he was expected to die.
He won the Medal of Honor 30 years after the battle of little round top. He was elected Governor of Maine 4 times in 1 year elections. His rivals never even coming close to beating him. He was the last civil war veteran to die from wounds.

@aceofhicks He was wounded in Petersburg I believe. They rushed him to the back of the battlefield and General Grant promoted him on the spot.

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (September 8, 1828 – February 24, 1914)Great American hero. As a Northerner and proud American I thank him and his men for what they done for this great country. Truly Thank for posting this video mate :o)
Just an Add-on to the film, Joshua Chamberlain, was actually wounded several more times (4?) and he rose to the rank of Major General. That's as far as the movie says. He also was the one who recorded for posterity, the meeting of the officers at Appomattox when other accounts focus on Grant and Lee. He lived well into his 90's and had suffered from shrapnel in his body all his life.

I think it was three more war wounds. And your right. I remember watching a documentary, and after he was shot in the hip by a Confederate Sharpshooter, the docs said that he would likely die. Well, after General Grant heard that, he promoted him to a Brigadier General, posthumously but he made a full semi-recovery in the end. He died in 1913, I think.
