hi, im a bit confused about this whole thing, if i buy a time capsule, or airport extreme, do i need to already have a wireless internet modem/router? or can i just plug it in and use it as one itself? It just seems a bit stupid to buy one if you need a modem as well...

@Loblod if you buy a time capsule or an airport extreme you need to have a separate modem already because the time capsule and airport extreme are only wireless routers, with the time capsule having the addition of a wireless hard drive for back-up. A lot of modems provided by ISPs dont have wireless capabilities so you connect one of these to enable WIFI in your house, or make it stronger if your modems WIFI is crappy :) Hope that makes sense.

i got everyhting the time capsule plug in and when i open airport utility it cant find anything , i used to but not now u know anything about this?

@morrycrow Plug in the time capsule to your Mac through ethernet and set it up initially, it should work from then on on wireless.

Can I use it as a external hardrive?

Ye you could, the only thing is it would take up your ethernet port on your computer, but if you use wireless then it's no problem.
