Ok, I understand that there are a lot of Vancouver drivers who haven't the slightest clue how to parallel park.. and waiting behind them can be excruciating at times.

But, that doesn't make it okay to ignore courtesy and the law by squeezing around them! All the poor parker gets out of it is more stress, which usually means waiting longer for them to park!

I suggest that part of the penalty for getting busted on this is a parallel parking test. Do you think the car drivers would pass? What should our new law make the motorcycle rider do?

  • do you have to stop for cars parking? surely the parking cars have to give way to the traffic carrying straight on and wait for a break in traffic to complete their maneuver? Thats how it works over here!

Although British drivers are far less patient than Canadian drivers!

  • @joej23 Interesting! In Canada, you are not allowed to pass a driver who is parking, while staying in the same lane as they are occupying. It's okay to signal and move over one lane, or even cross the center, as long as there is no oncoming traffic. Must be a pain to park during high traffic volumes in Britain?

  • @HNTDVancouver Yeah it can be a pain to park over here with the traffic, but you get used to it i suppose. When reverse parking here cars have to wait for a safe gap, or someone to let them complete their park, as if there was a crash, the reversing car would always be found at fault

  • In my hometown it even happens, that people run on the side-walk just to get around a parking car and save some seconds...

  • i wonder if there is a law about having to stop. but there is no law against being a a-hole.
