@friedie1jeff well it seems like we agree then the 25k salary was absurd

@xxa455xx I went to graduate school in NYC on the salary of a teach assistant. As do thousands of others. I KNOW what it is like to try to live on a students' salary. When I went to school, the salary was far far less than the equivalent of $25K. And after I graduated, it took about six months to land a good job. If you want to go to school to get a good job, be prepared to live like a pauper for several years. THEN comes payoff time.

@friedie1jeff back in 2007 25k was the pay for the academy recruits and POs for about 8 months after graduation also keep in mind that you only get in the academy after you have gone through a year long hiring process and that the academy takes up much of the work day it would be almost impossible to have a job and attend classes at the same time I hope that your not saying its easy to live for a year in NYC (the nations most expensive city) on 25k lol

60K is a lot of money for doing nothing. After 5 years in the NYPD you make over 90K base and when you add in overtime it works out to be a nice paycheck. After 20 years in you get the average of your best 3 money making years. So it could be well over 60k for doing nothing. Does your mom also get healthcare benefits for life for her and her spouse?

@Baknefct 60k is not a lot of money. My mom makes that as a sales rep and she didn't even graduate high school.

I wish somebody paid me $25,000/yr when I went to school. That's the salary paid to cops in NY when they go to the Police Academy. Bob, tell us what they get paid when they graduate.

Bob Is a bartender so I'm sure he make a lot more than a cop.

Well all due respect even 60,000 a year is not alot to live on in NYC with its stupid rents.
NYPD officers work hard, and deserve to be paid a wage they can actually live on.
