Gastric antral vascular ectasiaes is a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding and iron deficiency anaemia. This condition was first described by JA Rider, AP Klotz and JB Kirsner in 1953. Becaese of the appearance of this disease it is also called "watermelon stomach". The etiology is unknown. It can be
associated with portal hypertension, scleroderma and perhaps liver cirrhosis. Endoscopic argon plasma coagulation is the treatment of choice. This video shows GAVE in the gastric antrum seen during a capsule endoscopy - a standard upper endoscopy is of course sufficient to get a firm diagnose of this disease.
