  • Our Cognitive Bias are amplified by our society. So true yet so sad. Most people try to ignore this but we should not turn a blind eye to it. Beautiful people have been privileged no doubt. Abercrombie and Fitch/Hollister male models are considered sexy to women. Playboy models are considered sexy to men. Most of us hate this bias yet most of us a prone to it. We may not like how we look when compared to more beautiful people and yet we like and want to be with beautiful people, such irony.

  • True -- but we can at least be conscious that it exists within us. I do think that at least gives fairness a fighting chance.

  • all you're talking about in this video is natural selection. beauty means more chances to reproduce. also beauty (often) means health. BUT society today offers a second chance to ones who are not beautiful to reproduce themselves: money. Money means guaranteed future for the progeny, although beautiful people will be always more preferred because of unconscious genetic selection.

and it's not fair nor unfair, it's nature, you can't fight it.

(sorry for possible mistakes, i'm not english)

  • No apologies necessary -- your English is better than a lot of supposed native English-speakers.

Anyhow, although you're right up to a certain point, my point is that even the degree of money that you're allowed to make in this culture has everything to do with your looks and physical type -- studies are showing that CEO's, for example, are on average very much taller than the average person. Also, people with black-sounding names are much more shunned by hiring departments.

  • And that comes from a study called "Are Emily and Brendan More Employable Than Lakisha and Jamal?", done out of the University of Chicago School of Business by Marianne Bertrand.

She conducted her study using black- and white-sounding names only, but I have every confidence that if she repeated her study using Spanish and white-sounding names, she'd get basically identical results -- if not even more evidence of racial discrimination.

  • Attractiveness is nothing more than an equation based on the symmetry of the face and torso. However, appearance is not significant if you have money. If you are ugly, compensate by wearing formal and expensive clothing in public. Look at CEOs of corporations. Most of them are short, fat, bald and ugly, but because they wear $5,000 suits and a $10,000 Rolex, nobody's going to slack on their service any time soon. Money trumps all. Beauty fades once we hit 30, but we get richer our entire lives.

  • To some extent you're right, but sadly, you've missed something hugely vital: recent studies have found that CEO's are, on average, significantly taller than the average male, and getting taller every year. Many of the CEO's now are almost exclusively of Scottish-Germanic ethnicity, which is quite significantly taller than all other ethnicities -- and white, of the blue-eyed variety.

In other words, yes, as you say, "money trumps all" -- but Aryan genetics make money.

  • this is why I love youtube. Real people, real words, original thought and no camera cutaways and flashy lights every 3 seconds that drive you nuts like on fucking television

  • Absolutely true, and I love the way you phrased that.

Beyond that, however, it doesn't seem that most people can, or want to, heed anything beyond those quick superficial indicators. And in many cases, they even seem to do everything they can to suppress and block from their minds any possibility of those deeper-content qualities being expressed and recognized.

  • I like the way you think, this guy speaks the truth,in fact I would vote for him as president of the United States,if he were running, seriously.I've always wondered about some of the thing's you talked about in this video as well, but never really heard anybody address this issue the way you did,you hit it right on the head.

  • they made me push the carts all day in the Winter for 3 months in Walmart because i was lazy in customer service....

sad part is, only males are allowed to do that jobs, no females...

  • TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • For me, this doesn't apply. A man's personality makes or breaks him. The most attractive guy I've seen in my hometown came to my door, and you know, his goofy personality completely turned me off, though he was nice, it was just nice and weird. I know not so attractive and short men whose intelligence/personality make them to me almost unbearably irresistible. (and believe me, I'm a master of resistance).

  • this guy tells the truth

  • I don't know that I agree with your comments on short people. I am 5' 6'' and I have never had a problem with it. Most females are shorter than me anyway, so that is not a problem. And I always gets jobs. The only problem is that I can't ever be a rock or movie star.

  • I'm a transgendered dude. I'm 17 now. When I'm 23 I'll look 17. And then when I'm 26 I'll look 17, and then you can see where this is going can't you? ;] Hahah, no T=really young looking ftms. The bad news is I might have a hard time getting a job, because a lot of bosses will be afraid of me. They don't want me "freaking their customers out" I guess. It happens to transpeople a lot. I mean, what's the worst thing I could do to someone by taking the fourty seconds to bag their groceries huh?
