Lewis Hamilton has been promised a McLaren LM if he wins three world titles

Barely 24 hours after winning his first Formula One World Championship, Lewis Hamilton has revealed he has designs on two more titles as part of a plan to land his £5 million dream car.

Speaking to the press about a stunning Brazilian Grand Prix, where he overtook Timo Glock on the final lap to finish fifth and claim the drivers' championship, the Briton insisted he was not motivated by the riches that await him.

He added, though, that he is driven by a promise from Ron Dennis, the McLaren boss, to give him the McLaren F1 road car on display in the team's factory if he wins three titles.

I want to win this car, I want to get this car off Ron, he said. I will work as hard as I can to get to number three.

"We made a deal, three world championships. Its a car that Ive always wanted. I got a car book, a nice book for Christmas years and years ago when I was about ten, and it had the orange McLaren F1 LM on the front of it.

That was my dream car then. Then I got signed up by McLaren, I went to the factory and saw it and ever since Ive gazed at it every time Ive walked past it. Still today, its the only car I ever really stop by apart from Ayrton [Sennas] 1989 car.

I stop by it and I always open it up and just smell it - carbon, fresh, new. Its number one out of five and the most expensive and beautiful car in the whole world. Its the one that I want.

A 1997 McLaren F1 road car, one of 64 made, was sold at auction by Sothebys in London on Thursday for £2.53 million. When new, they retail at £634,500. This particular car is the rarest of the F1s, its an LM, Dennis said of Hamilton's prospective prize. So I would say it was worth at least double that [the auction price].

At least I dont have to give it away for a couple of years but it will be a small price to pay for three world championships.

Triumphant in only his second season, Hamilton played down suggestions that he will surpass Michael Schumachers record of seven titles. I dont plan on trying to reach any of his records, he said. Its not something that appeals to me. Records dont mean a huge amount to me.

I love racing, I love getting in the car and winning championships. Thats always been something Ive loved doing, and the feeling you have after all that work from the people around you.

Hamilton lost last year's championship by a point from Fernando Alonso and emerged for the press conference the day after the Brazilian Grand Prix hungover after drowning his sorrows. He chose to drink water last night.

Im comfortable in life, he said. Its an amazing feeling to know that youve made some money, considering that I never had £100 to go and buy some trainers when I was younger. To think that we can do that now is great.

But I would have done it for free. It just so happens that I get paid to do my hobby, the thing I love, and its nice to be able to take care of my family. Thats all that really matters.
