Vangelis - The Bounty End Titles (Film Version and "Themes" Version Comparison)

Here we have the film version of The Bounty (End Titles) and the version included on Vangelis' compilation CD "Themes". You'll notice the film version has much more percussion than the "Themes" version. As you listen to the "Themes" version, you'll notice the levels have been adjusted to tune down the percussion and it can be heard very faintly in the background. I like both versions of the song, but the film version with the pronounced percussion is my favourite.

I like the film version better to. I like the irregular beat of the bongo. It really adds interest & a very unusually timing while a constant rhythm. The film version is just not as long as the "Themes" CD pressing. I know it was edited for timing with the film credits.

What they did on the CD is an injustice to this often overlooked masterpiece, IMO.

@Cockroach2008 If you're interested, there is an exceptionally good cover by a keyboardist named Ed Starink. He does the best covers of Vangelis' work to my knowledge. Just search "Ed Starink The Bounty" here on youtube and it'll come up. It has the pronounced percussion and Starink has tweaked the song a bit. All of Starink's covers are very respectful of the original pieces and you can tell he has a love for Vangelis' music, as well as other well known artists like Jarre and Jan Hammer.

@revokdaryl1 Yes, very interested. Upon your suggestion, I listened to Ed Starinik's cover. He did not alter much & absolutely nothing to ruin it! Fabulous work! Listening to Jan Hammer for 35+ years. (Old jazz freak!) Going to find out about Jarre. I can't say I ever heard of him.

This music has no voices. All talent! Not poor performances behind repeated bad poetry. That bores me!

The genius of Vangelis has been over looked by the masses!

In my opinion, the film version is superior, the pronounced percussion really add depth and quality to the piece.

Honestly I think the percussion in the film version could have been toned down just a little bit. Started to give me a headache. Still both versions are excellent!

I think I agree with you: the filmversion is more beautiful, indeed because of the more pronounced percussion. Listening to the filmversion makes one think the percussion volume was only accidently tuned down on the Themes version. As if it was not ment to be, but them record company blokes just forgot to correct their editing/mastering mistake.
