As Tonkinese Cat Breeders we LOVE IT when TONKS get Media Attention - did you realize that TONKS are in the Top 10 Cat Breeds in popularity ?
Short-Haired and relatively hypo-allergenic, Tonkinese Spunky Monkeys are becoming everyone's favorite. Originally a cross-bred merging the best traits of the Siamese and the Burmese, Tonkinese get their name from the same area of South East Asia. Siamese (Thailand)+Burmese (Burma) = Tonkinese from the area of The Gulf of Tonkin by the South China Sea.
Tonkinese are registered PureBreds for about 30 years now.
Collette Burnette is a friend of ours and fellow Tonkinese Breeder - Collette's Champagne Mink Tonkinese Kittens were recently featured on the Martha Stewart Show ~
YEA COLLETTE ! Tonkinese RULE . . . .

  • Let me tell you, my tonk does not like to travel. 3 hour car ride? She will meow the entire trip.

  • you need to practice more and more

  • Do they get along with abyssinian cats? Also, if a tonk has another cat to play with, can they be left alone a little longer if the owner has to work? Thanks.

  • Janie - mine do - they have an activity level right up there with Aby-s and Bengals

  • I have a siamese but now am so not sure if hes a tonk or a siam ??

How will i know the diff between them they look sooooo THE SAME !!

I have vids of my kitty on my Channel ..

Can u tell from a vid if its a siam or tonk ?

  • I don't see what the fascination is with Tonkinese Cats. They look like poorly colored Siamese Cats.

  • @RetroZombieee

very usual for a kitten....they are a tad neurotic at times

don't worry it will grow out of it but it's worth getting a scratching pole

  • I have a Tonkinese cat and he is 3 months old today, he is SO playful... actually, very erratic. He like to bite and scratch A LOT. Is this normal for such a young little tonk kitten? I found him as a stray, in behind my grandmothers shed. I'm keeping him, its just that he scratches and bites and ATTACKS me so much its tiring!

  • tonkinese cats are awesome they have a lot of character to them

  • I still miss my Tonkinese Quo Feng after 19 years. /-(

  • i have two tonks, a boy and a girl

  • I love Tonkinese! They are the best cat breed ever!!

  • I have a Tonkinese that I have had for 9 yrs from Collette Burnette. She is the best breeder around! I also, have a 13 yr old that I got from another breeder... He is not as strong as the Tonkinese I got from Collette Burnette. She know what she is doing by being very selective! He has never gotten sick, and loves children, and sleeps with me like a human. He fetches, hunts, chuffles like the big cats. I have emailed Collette thanking her many times! Now, I see her on Martha Stewarts show! Yo go

  • accordint to wikipedia, the original spelling "Tonkanese," was a reference to the island in the musical South Pacific where "half-breeds" suffered no discrimination.
