Mississippi's eight universities and 15 community and junior colleges are seeing record enrollment levels. But state funding for higher education is falling off, so those extra students will face extra costs for tuition, room and board in the fall of 2011. As the State Legislature winds down the 2011 session and prepares for final budget negotiations, we speak with Sen. Briggs Hopson, Sen. Gray Tollison, Rep. Toby Barker and Rep. Kelvin Buck about state funding levels, the high demand for higher ed in Mississippi, and its potential role in our state's economic recovery.
