If fans and paparazzi weren't so rabid, performers like Elvis wouldn't have had to hide. It's not natural and lonely recluses gravitate to drugs to compensate for the emptiness they feel from constant touring, living in strange places and just having to hide for personal security reasons. This celebrity culture is a killer.
Music icons shouldn't have such a short shelf life. They really shouldn't. Maybe random weekly drug testing should be required by contract by the private companies that insure live performances. At least a week before. Maybe that would save some of our best talent.
@MertonHayford Elvis was always the producer, and decided on all the instrumentals, including the big orchestras...down to violinist and flutist. He knew ever note that each instrument was to play. He was described as absolutely brilliant, and conductors said his timing was unmatched...equal to a metronome. The band members said he had eyes on the back of his head. He was always sweet when people messed up, but here someone was off in some way, and it seemed to irritate him. That's my guess.
