Crysis Mass Physics. Throwing thousands of crates and barrels around and blowing up several hundred barrels.

I saw this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaHS-y_mapQ and I immediately knew i needed to do something similar myself. I used the tutorial posted in description of the video, which, unfortunately is no longer availible.

This video is not real time, it has been rendered one frame at the time, and then played at 30 frames to make a motion picture.

I used Crysis CryEngine 2 Sandbox 2 to render the video
I used the following console commands
r_displayinfo 0 Remove the text in the upper right corner

cl_hud 0 Removes the ingame HUD

e_view_dist_ratio increases the view distance, objects that fly far away will still be drawn

sys_physics_CPU 0 Physics rendering is done on the Graphics card, making the whole game lag if the physics are intense therefore removing lag when making videos

Fixed_time_step 0.033333333 Forces a fixed framerate, the 0.033333333 is 30 fps

Capture_frames 1 Start recording images. The images will be placed in a folder names CaptureOutput if nothing else is specified.

capture_frames 0 Stop recording

Capture_folder Enter a name for the folder which the images will be saved in. The folder is placed in the game's root directory. If you start a new recording in the same folder, the old recording wil be overwritten.

e_particles 0 Turns of particles, makes the rendering a little faster

I then used a program called Virtual dub to turn the images into a avi file
http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

Then I edited the files, added music and uploaded them to youtube

System Specs:

The first clips in the 4:3 format is rendered by my old computer:
CPU: Pentium 4 @ 3.0 GHz
GFX: Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT 256 MB and later Geforce 8600 GT 512 MB
RAM: 3 GB
MB: Asus P5GD1 PRO

The clips in 16:9 format are rendered on my new computer:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.2 GHz
GFX: ATi Radeon 4890 1GB
RAM: 4 GB
MB: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P

I used Crytek CryEngine2 Sandbox2 to create the levels and run the simulations. The clip with the green barrels, which kill me at one point contains 58800 Barrels, and took several hours to render. The large explosion at sunset contains 1600 barrels.

The first clips had to be on LOW settings otherwise it took way to long to render the movies on my old computer. Later when I got my new computer Ii was able to turn the settings up to VERY HIGH

The music is by a danish band called "Carpark North"
