I agree with most of what you say. However, capitalism does not obey nature. Capitalism only obeys profit and does so to the detriment of nature and to humanity. You don't have to declare yourself a Marxist to acknowledge this. Furthermore, advertising as we know it is largely a 20th century phenomenon deliberately developed to get us to buy things. It does not harken back to neolithic storytelling. Your take on Dines, however, is right on!

@travis6johnson Thanks. I would argue, however, that she fails to fully encompass the "playboy lifestyle" when she portrays it as mindlessly consumer driven.

Good points, though, about Hefner publishing Ellison, Bradbury, Ballard, et al.
I'm basically on Dines' side of this debate, but Hefner's real contributions to publishing shouldn't be ignored. That said, acknowledging those contributions isn't Dines' role and isn't particularly important to her argument.

The primary purpose of "Porky's" is sexual arousal?
That's a rather bizarre point of view.

@ReignbowSmite I should add, that I disagree with the leftist cultural fascism even more.

Great video! I can't wait for more. Thank you for doing all the dirty work for us and making it enjoyable ^_^
(And to cater to your digression
Ayn Rand is a sociopath, and the free market caters to Corporations. Seeing as you can't get rid of them, they would just keep absorbing smaller businesses.)
I hope you gain some attention, and Dines loses her position as an educator.

@PaulineTriage I would disagree in that laissez-fair capitalism cannot produce fascism because fascism can only be produced by political clout. In a free market, the government would not be a tool of the corporations. It would actually encourage more thoughtful, safer and ethical business practices because the corporations would know that they don't have the government to bail them out.

@jordanowen42 Objectivist philosophy has a lot to offer women in terms of social autonomy and unapologetic sexual freedom - I think that's why you tend to see a lot of young women jump into objectivism with both feet when they're first introduced to Rand in college. (I myself went through my Rand-enchantment phase because I sought her out after hearing Neil Peart was into her). The downside of it comes with the economics. Laissez-faire capitalism tends to morph into inverted fascism in practice.

Debunking Gail is too easy, so for a challenge I've been defending Gail instead.
My head hurts.

Stopping at about 35 minutes to comment. About 5/6 interviewees for hire are rejected at my company because they can't tell cause from effect. These are not randomly selected people - they are people referred to the job, who have college degrees and were interested in working at a company with the name Logic in the title.
"Every woman has a fear and horror of rape, but in every womb there's always that one rebellious nerve ending that tingles with curiosity". Maybe she should sit down alone with an ass to mouth scene and really resolve her issues about it. While that mental image may be harsh, think of all the future times it could spare us another public rant about that shit if she just sits down and wacks off to ass to mouth. Because I'm certainly sick of hearing about it.

@PaulineTriage Just wait until you hear how she goes on about ATM in her book. I almost puked- it was worse than watching actual ATM.
