Haitian immigrants in Dominican hospitals (before the earthquake)

Of each 10 women who attend the specialized consultations in this city's maternity hospitals San Lorenzo and La Altagracia, between three and four are Haitian and are in critical conditions of undernourishment and with arterial hypertension, said doctors yesterday.

They feels that it is evident that in the country there are no migratory control policies, because the Haitians who go to the maternity hospitals receive attendance of elective surgeries and Cesarean, said the doctors whom preferred anonymity.

The health deterioration in which those pregnant Haitian women arrive contributes to their extended internments, as well as the need to practice Cesarean and to spend in medicines that those health centers do not have.

The doctors do not know how much each of the health centers exactly spends in each Haitian woman ready to give birth, and despite that they know that they have to treat the person despite their, they find it strange that in addition to the emergencies, the illegal Haitians receive all the benefits, as if they were documented citizens.

Many of those women arrive in the emergencies of both maternities and the situation for gynecologists is very difficult, due to the language barriers. "We do not have statistics about those women arriving for Cesarean, but they are many, because generally, the childbirth is complicated from the anemia, the undernourishment and infectious problems with which they arrive," one of the doctors said.
