I know I disappeared. I know it'd be cool if this was my triumphant return to YT, but it's actually a present for a friend and this is the only way I know to get it to her (yes, I am actually kind of a n00b@heart). For the rest of you lovely people who are- for whatever reason- still subscribed (PS THANKYOUILOVEYOU)... I do intend to return. Just not today. Looooooooong story.
-----
My friends Gemma and Angel dared me to write a song about Daleks, Cybermen, and an epic war between David Tennant and Matt Smith. This is that song, recorded at midnight about a year after I wrote it, because Gemma is sick and I thought this might make her feel better.

Like the Rose

Capo 1
Chords: G D Em7 C2 (Because there might be someone somewhere who can't figure that out :P)

Somebody dropped the bomb, and then everything went wrong,
Why'd you have to change?
Now you're locked inside and your world is petrified,
You've become so strange,
You used to have such peace, now all you do is scream.

Be like the Rose, step into the sun.
I'll be like her too, I'll lay down my gun.

We were once so similar, but now the resemblance grows dimmer,
How can you not see?
You were once as soft as a petal, now you're cold and hard as metal,
and you don't feel a thing,
Something's gotten into your head,
When you look in the mirror and wish you were dead,
I'll try to open up your mind and show you a safer place to hide,

Be like the Rose, step into the sun.
I'll be like her too, I'll lay down my gun.

If Matt and David go to war, what would they be fighting for?
The 'men and Dal's would just break through and then what would we do?
We all miss the way things were, but regeneration must occur,
Some things have already begun in a new dimension...

Don't cry for me, I've only crossed the bay,
I've lived to long on your side, this is where I want to stay,
I've done so much running, it's time that I begun
to rest with my Rose, here in the sun

Be like the Rose, step into the sun,
I'll be like her too, I'll lay down my gun.

Be like the Rose, step into the sun,
I'll be like her too... human.

If it wasn't clear:
V1 - The original, 1963 Dalek mythology, in which the Daleks came from a peaceful race called the Dals who changed when a bomb was dropped on their planet.
V2 - Cybermen. The end (about the open mind) specifically references The Next Doctor.
Chorus - the episode "Dalek" with the 9th Doctor and Rose.
Bridge - Both Gemma and Angel were very anti-new-doctor before "Eleventh Hour". I was not. Now Gemma and I are Matt Smith fans (we still love Tennant, don't worry). Angel is still very anti-Matt-Smith.
Other bridge thing and final chorus - At Bad Wolf Bay in "Journey's End".

  • @narwhal17 Why thank you!

  • This song is amazing and you have the voice of an angel!

  • @Mec81589 Aww, you're a doll!

  • WOAH you're back :D

  • @HeyJeremyC Just for a minute... then I went back in my hidey-hole, haha. I don't have a working camera right now- this was filmed on my Droid. I'd like to get back into the YT community, I've just had to step out while some personal things took precedent.

  • @Oodlesxofxnoodles Aww, thank you! I don't currently have any plans to do an official recording of this song... maybe someday, but I just don't have the means right now. You're a doll :)

  • This was so sweet and beautiful. You have an angelic voice and I would love if this was available in an MP3.

I ship Doctor/Rose but there are only a few things that make me feel his love for her and this song is one of them. Absolutely brilliant. Very gripping and poignant and other awesome adjectives!

  • @zottepark Thanks! :D

  • Right on, Kelly! Welcome Back-ish!
