These big foam blocks from Children's Factory are just about the perfect toddler toy. To kick off my new "parenting" section on my website, Excellent Living Guide, I thought I'd take do a video of my kid playing with them at the Y.
The blocks promote mental and physical activity, and also cooperative play (my 2 year old is really shy, so it was great to see him playing with someone else.) They are a good way to get out restless or aggressive energy -- the soft foam can't hurt anyone, and they're fun to kick and throw. Since the foam blocks are covered with tough vinyl, they really take a beating.
After this, he went down for a solid 2 hours, which is really good for him!
Basically, they get the ELG stamp of approval. They're high-quality, non-wasteful, quiet, and active. You can build, stack, throw, kick, beat, climb, and make up any number of games with them. Investing in a set is a bit pricey when compared to cheap plastic toys, but they will also stay fun for you children as they grow. (Hey, as adults, we also like to play with them!)

I was looking to purchase some of these for my kids, but it can reach up into the thousands for these things! I wonder if there is a way to make them yourself without dipping into the college fund. =)
