The Democrats are hell-bent on removing all profit motives from medical industries, with the federal gov't controlling who gets paid and how much -- like they do in Canada, England, Germany, etc..
If the Democrats succeed, then the rate of progress in medical research will slow substantially, and in the long term a LOT more people will suffer and die, not just in the USA, but around the world. You and I might be among them. If we are, we can blame Democrats like Obama, Daschle & Specter.

Don't forget Nixon's disastrous wage & price controls! If you thought the federal gov't should tell your barber what he could charge for a haircut, then Richard Nixon and the Democrats who ran Congress were your kind of leaders.
Also, Nixon's EPA administrator, Wm Ruckelshaus, overrode his department's experts to ban DDT, causing millions of deaths. Google "Malaria Clock."
Yes, Nixon was a terrible president, runner up behind LBJ for worst president of the 2nd half of the 20th century.

Mr. Specter is being facetious here. I'm supposed to believe that without GOVERNMENT funding of cancer research, more people would die, and we'd be farther from a cure?? Please! I'm sure overall, government funding only constitutes a fraction. Does he forget all the private sector research?
