I had a conversation today with Tommy O'Haver, the director of AN AMERICAN CRIME. The film is based on a horrifying event that happened in Indianapolis in 1965. A young girl, Sylvia Likens, was tortured in a basement for months by a woman named Gertrude Baniszewski, her children and some neighborhood kids. It's a real life "Lord of the Flies." Needless to say the film is very, very intense. People who know O'Haver for BILLY'S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN KISS and ELLA ENCHANTED, will be startled by the ambition and power of this film. He elevates is from what could be a court TV reenactment into something that is haunting, eery and deeply moving.

  • This story is one of many that tells me there is no god. She's not in heaven, and that monster who killed her is not in hell. I wish that were the case though.

  • Just saw the movie and I am too angry to go to bed right now. There should be a guy breaks into the house and kill the bitch. I can’t believe those assholes are human.

  • The Story Should Be Told Glad They Did From Indianapolis Indiana And The Best Movie For Indiana Ever

  • Gertrude Baniszewski had 7 children the seventh child was born out of wedlock :S

  • the saddest movie i have ever witnessed plus it's a true story so fuck!!!!

  • hey, how u doing!

wat do u mean that girl next door seems like a "wanna be" kind of?

  • After seeing how the family members either allowed such an atrocity to happen, plus older sister Dianna not believing them when told about what was going on, the family shouldn't even expect permission.

As far as I'm concerned, Mr. Likens fed his daughter to the wolves. He should've been prosecuted as well.

  • Though the movie left out a lot of facts, they did a really great job setting the mood of the story
