What do you get when you combine a Raspberry Pi, a pair of stepper motors, an 8 channel darlington array, a lithium battery pack and a few bits of hardware with an Etch A Sketch?

It is the mp4 compression, converts the screen into big mpeg blocks... On the original footage shot in 720p, it's very clear.
It is a recording setup I built, with an arm to hold the camera (and a suspension microphone) above the work surface, so I can record hands free. It worked well with the other video I posted, but again, that compression artifact is blurring the grey area.
Suggestions for a different setup or perhaps a better compression tool? It's already a pretty large file...

how about not using a super bright light pointed directly at a reflective surface so we can actually see what its doing?

Upload the uncompressed video on vimeo, their compression is less harsh.

Really cool idea! It's a bit frustrating not being able to see it too well in the video though. =(
