    Relax. Chekov was utterly likable and not used to down on Russians.

    He wasn't baffoonish whatsoever. He was young and brimming with pride.

    If they wanted to use a character on Trek to belittle Russians they would have done a better job than to make a hero the fans loved.

    It's not Chekov's misconceptions. It's a joke in Star Trek: people claiming things for their own cultures. It's most evident in the dinning scene in The Undiscovered Country: the old Klingon proverb: 'Revenge is a dish that is best served cold'. Shakespeare in its original Klingon. Spock's Vulcan quote: "If you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth", etc.
