Less than a month after it opened, the tallest tower in the world closed itself to visitors. We went up the Burj Khalifa (even though the signs still bore its original name, Burj Dubai) the day before it shut down indefinitely due to concerns of the elevator failing. Although there has been no official reason for the closing, newspapers all over the world picked up on the image of the 124 story elevator plunging down the tower of terror. We didnt notice anything strange in the Burjs elevator ride but once at the top of the Observation Deck, it was dusty and extremely windy. We felt the building sway and got motion sickness. We also noticed broken glass on the outside deck, which was already closed for maintenance. Were broken windows part of the problem for the Burj? The problem with the windows was raised by observers as early as 2007 and again in 2009. For whatever reason that it shut down, lets hope the Burj Khalifa opens soon (with the utmost safety!) as a proud symbol of Dubai.

  • FALLING ELEVATOR? With all the elevator safety technology they are afraid of the elevator falling?

  • Yeah, I won't go up again. Don't think I can if I wanted to -- the thing is still closed!

  • lol just make sure you dont go up that thing again lol

  • Yes, it does look really skinny...but I hope it doesn't collapse! Eeeeek!

  • thats alright i can see that building collaping one day he looks so unstable and skinny

  • Yes, it cost 100 AED (about $30 us dollars) if you buy your tickets in advance. At the door, it's 400 AED. Tickets were sold out for days in advance. They had to refund the tickets after they closed unexpectedly. I feel bad for the tourists who had to leave and could not come back to see the Burj Khalifa when (if?!) it opens...But there's still lot of things to see here in Dubai, so don't let that stop you from visiting!
