On Boxing Day, Hypatia wanted to go visit her friend across the courtyard. We told her she had to eat something for lunch before she went. We had lots of leftovers from Christmas (green beans, mashed potatoes, Scandinavian meatballs, lefse, and lutefisk) and leftovers from Christmas Eve (lasagna, bread), and she of course could have helped herself to any type of fruit we had sitting around (apples, tangerines, oranges, bananas). So what was the only thing she wanted to eat? 'Tis no lie, nor exaggeration: lutefisk. That's right, the only thing she wanted was something that tasted and felt like a salted fish jello that had been prepared with dirty sock water. What a kid!
